Winged Feed and Seed Company

I'd never been here before but was in the area and needed some bird seed and was pleasantly surprised to find this place! The owner is super helpful and has great stock. Bird seed was very competitively priced as well. Glad I found this small business!

I stopped in because I specifically wanted to support a small local business instead of heading to the larger chain stores Google suggested. The shop has that old small-town, packed-with-interesting-things feel, but as a first-time customer it was a little hard to navigate and tell where I should or shouldn’t go. One of the ladies appeared to already be helping another customer, so I didn’t want to interrupt. I just wish there had been a quick acknowledgment like “We’ll be right with you,” because I honestly wasn’t sure who worked there or whether I was in the right area of the store. When someone finally asked if I needed help, I asked about straw and was told they didn’t carry it and was referred to Menards and Gertens as I headed out the door. It wasn’t that they didn’t have the straw — inventory is inventory — it was more that I had intentionally chosen the small local shop over the bigger stores, so the interaction just felt a little impersonal. I still appreciate local businesses and would rather support them when I can. A simple greeting or acknowledgment would have made the experience feel much more welcoming.

Absolutely a lovely place! Especially if you live around there. It was a lovely atmosphere and the retailer helping me was very very helpful for my situation at hand with live chickens that are past life expectancy. Highly recommend and plan to be frequently visiting here.

Wonderful new addition for the local birding community. With the sad closure of Cardinal Corner, this locally owned store offers many familiar items: bulk seed at low prices (they’re building out the bins right now), feeders, gifts, honey!, etc. They’re in the same space as Cardinal Corner’s Newport location.

Great new spot for my bird seed needs! Owner was very knowledgeable and offers high quality products. After talking to him about his plans for the store, I look forward to going back and seeing what is new!
